Between Will and Surrender
A New Visionary Fiction Novel
by Margaret Duarte

LOCAL AUTHOR, MARGARET DUARTE:
INSTRUMENTAL
IN RESURRECTING A
LOST GENRE

ELK GROVE, CALIFORNIA, January 4, 2015—Although warned by agents and publishers that labeling her work Visionary Fiction was the “kiss of death,” Margaret Duarte refused to concede. This December Margaret launched Between Will and Surrender, the first book in her "Enter the Between" series.

“In a world riddled with fear, misunderstanding, and lost hope,” she says, “I believe there are people prepared to transcend the boundaries of their five senses and open to new thoughts and ideas. In other words, I believe the audience is ready for fiction that heals, empowers, and bridges differences.”

Margaret joined forces with four other visionary fiction writers to create the Visionary Fiction Alliance (www.visionaryfictionalliance.com), a website dedicated to bringing visionary fiction back into the mainstream and providing other visionary fiction writers with a place to call home. Currently, VFA has 187 members from all over the world and is visited by thousands each month.

Between Will and Surrender is the contemporary story of Silicon Valley resident Marjorie Veil, whose sense of reality frays when she begins hearing a voice when no one is there. Afraid that she’s losing her mind, she goes on a soul-searching journey to the remote Carmel Valley. But she does not find the reprieve she desires. Instead, she encounters Morgan Van Dyke, whose romantic interest in her is a distraction she can ill afford.

She then meets an identical twin sister she didn’t know she had, another blow to her already fragile sense of self. And finally, she befriends a mute and orphaned Native American child, who gives her his most valued possession, a mouse totem, thus introducing her to the power of selfless love.

Between Will and Surrender takes the reader on a visionary journey into the wilds of the Los Padres National Forest, home of the Esselen, one of the smallest Native American populations in California who were nearly exterminated as a result of Spanish Missions.

Readers are introduced to the teachings of the Native American Medicine Wheel, which can be applied to their personal journeys toward self-actualization.

Like the fires that blaze through the Los Padres National Forest, the mysterious voice in Marjorie Veil’s head burns the frameworks that imprison her—her limiting beliefs, her old patterns of thought—transforming them into blackened snags, a perfect habitat for the seeds of awareness buried deep inside of her to burst into life.

Between Will and Surrender: A Paranormal Adventure of Personal Growth and Transformation is available at http://www.amazon.com in paperback ($10.99) and Kindle ($2.99) formats.
